A Nature-Inspired, Neutral + Greenery Backyard Wedding
Well, if this isn’t the most beautiful DIY backyard wedding you’ve ever seen then I don’t know what is! Jordan and Kim had an amazing team of hardworking friends and family members who put this day together and it was just gorgeous! The location, the food, the decor–all family and friends!
Kim always had a vision for her day. Her in-laws have a large property completely surrounded by massive pines and she knew she would stand in front of friends and family to marry her best friend by her favorite trees one day. Planning an outdoor wedding always adds a little more stress to the mix but luckily the rain came a day early so her ceremony dreams could come true! But although the rain held off we had another factor to deal with.
Just three weeks ago at my wedding, it was 90 degrees and humid as can be. I mean, I was wiping the sweat off of Jacob’s forehead during the ceremony (poor guy)! Indiana is no joke when it comes to fluctuating temps because Kim and Jordan’s day HAD to be the coldest and windiest of the season so far! But they were prepared. Her white leather jacket, blankets for the guests and a bonfire right by the dance floor — no one was going cold that night!
I AM TELLING YOU — Brides and grooms-to-be — a First Look is a MUST! When I arrived, Kim (who I know very well) definitely showed some nervousness, maybe some anxious feelings and she was much quieter than usual, honestly. (Which I understand, she’s getting married! I was the same way!) But as soon as she got a moment with her husband-to-be, SHE DID NOT STOP SMILING! After sharing a first look, your day just seems like a big party instead of a big performance!
Kim, Jordan, I hope you both enjoy reliving your day through your blog images! It was an honor and absolute BLAST capturing your best day ever. Thank you so much for having me and congratulations!!
Her grandmother’s wedding dress wrapped around her bouquet
ahh! Kim, you are stunning!
I love it when a wedding party is so great at hootin’ and hollerin’!!
How amazing are these confetti poppers?! (don’t worry, it’s just bio-degradable paper) Kim scattered them throughout the seats for guests!
ahh! Bring on the sunset veil pics!! Also, how amazing is Kim’s white leather jacket???
OMG FAVE!!
This queen was ready to PARRRRTAAAYYYYY! (and that she did!)
Ope, heyyy! Yeah, that’s me and my husband! I was also a guest at this wedding haha (Photo cred: my BFF, Nikki, on the right!)
omg, I had a vision for this photo and this was my FIRST (and only) try…not too bad if I do say so myself!

[…] Surber Wedding | Because there isn’t a time crunch, couples casually move into their romantic portraits. No one is around, a coordinator isn’t screaming in the back “15 MINUTES!” and there is no pressure! It’s just the two of them and their photographer capturing this special moment, the excitement and joy of their wedding day. This is your time to be TOGETHER and to be ALONE. When does that happen on a wedding day? Without a First Look, it doesn’t. (Did you catch that?) No alone time! After your romantic portraits are done, they meet up with their best friends! Their bridal party joins them and because they still have plenty of time to spare, the bride touches up a little makeup while the boys act like boys. After a few minutes, the bridal party portraits begin and they’re FUN! And they are fun because there is time to make them fun! There aren’t any guests waiting impatiently at cocktail hour and there isn’t a DJ coming to find the photographer to get a time check. It’s wonderful! […]
