Beautiful couple, the sweetest families, al fresco dinner reception, what more could you ask for? Erika and Jocko’s Bottleworks Hotel Wedding was timeless, emotional and a true summer celebration. The venue with its historic brick, art deco themes, and a courtyard that fills with golden light before sunset creates the kind of atmosphere that makes you slow down behind the camera and soak it in. Erika and Jocko’s wedding day in Indianapolis was the definition of classic black tie with a modern, editorial edge, and every part of it felt intentional. From the moment I stepped into the boutique hotel that morning, the tone was set.
The Morning Before a Bottleworks Hotel Wedding
The morning unfolded in one of the beautifully designed suites at Bottleworks Hotel. Champagne was flowing, music was playing softly in the background, and the bridesmaids—dressed later in sleek black satin gowns—moved around the room in that joyful, anticipatory rhythm that only wedding mornings have.
Erika’s gown was timeless in every sense. A structured, strapless silhouette with clean lines that felt both modern and completely classic. When she stepped into it, the room went quiet for a second. The fabric hugged perfectly, and paired with her low, polished bun and delicate jewelry, the look was understated elegance at its finest.

I loved photographing the quiet in-between moments: her holding her petite all-white bouquet for the first time, fingers brushing over the roses; the soft clink of champagne glasses; the way natural window light wrapped around her shoulders as she took a deep breath before heading to the ceremony.
Meanwhile, down the hall, Jocko and his groomsmen were buttoning cuffs and adjusting black bow ties. Their black suits were crisp and tailored—classic black tie done right. There’s something powerful about a groom standing with his closest friends in perfectly tailored black, city skyline behind them, ready for the day to begin.

Wedding Portraits Locations in Indianapolis
After the ceremony, Erika and Jocko hopped into the vintage Rolls Royce to getaway for quiet moments alone in Lockerbie Square. One of my favorite portraits from the day was simple and quiet: Erika seated in a vintage white getaway car, veil softly draped, smiling up at Jocko as he stood just outside the door. It felt like an old-Hollywood nod woven into a very modern Indy wedding.
For wedding party portraits, we headed to the city center. Erika’s white gown and the black bridesmaids and groomsmen against the architectural stone steps of Indiana War Memorial — a perfect Indy portrait location.
The bridesmaids gathered around Erika, black satin catching the light as they leaned in close, bouquets of white blooms creating the most striking contrast. It was bold and refined all at once. The groomsmen later walked through downtown Indianapolis together, sunglasses on, jackets sharp, exuding that effortless confidence that makes for the best candid frames.

Bride and Groom Portraits at Bottleworks Hotel Wedding
The portraits of Erika and Jocko inside the historic hotel are some of my favorites in my portfolio. The light shining into the bottling room against the aqua tile was unbelievable. And did you see her train on those steps?! Truly iconic.

Bring Your Dog to your Wedding Cocktail Hour
And then — Newman arrived.
I will preface this with the fact that not all dogs can join cocktail hour. But Erika and Jocko won the lottery with Newman. He is just the SWEETEST BOY. Newman is an English Cream Golden Retriever and when he made his appearance during cocktail hour, he completely stole the show. Guests bent down to pet him, their suits and gowns brushing against his soft white fur (and probably getting a little of Newman to take home with them). He was calm, happy, and clearly part of the family. Photographing him being loved on by parents and friends alike might have been one of the most heart-melting parts of the day.

Al Fresco Reception at Bottleworks Hotel
A Bottleworks Hotel Wedding truly shines during an outdoor summer reception. The courtyard was transformed into an al fresco dream. Long tables dressed in crisp white linens, black chairs lining each side, towering white floral arrangements and sunlight reflecting off glassware and gold-rimmed plates. All surrounded by glowing candlelight.

A Summer Night in Indy
As dinner concluded, the sky shifted from soft blue to dusky gray. From above, the courtyard looked like a glowing pocket of celebration tucked into the heart of Indianapolis. The toasts were emotional and heartfelt—equal parts laughter and tears. Jocko kept reaching for Erika’s hand under the table, a small but constant gesture.
When the dance floor opened at this Bottleworks Hotel Wedding, the energy shifted in the best way. Under the string lights, they shared their first dance surrounded by family and friends. The music carried through the warm Indy air, and before long, the dance floor filled—black suits, satin gowns, and spinning silhouettes against brick and sky.

Later in the evening, after the couple had a moment away for some end of night portraits on the buzzing streets of Indy, I stepped back for a moment. The long tables now slightly askew from celebration, candles flickering and melted, guests lingering in conversation and the dance floor exploding with energy. This is the kind of wedding I love to show up for — the ones where the families are no longer planning, they’re simply enjoying.
