Jordan and Maxx without a doubt leaned into their venue while thoughtfully designing their Detroit Wedding at The War Memorial. Perched along the shores of Lake St. Clair, the estate feels as though it belongs to another era, where grand architecture, waterfront views, and effortless elegance come together in a way that never goes out of style. Jordan and Maxx embraced that feeling completely, creating a wedding weekend filled with old Hollywood glamour, classic Detroit charm, and meaningful moments that unfolded naturally from one celebration to the next. From the moment I arrived, it felt less like documenting a single wedding day and more like stepping into a story that had been thoughtfully written over several unforgettable days.

An Intimate Beginning: The Rehearsal Dinner

The celebration began the evening before with an outdoor tented rehearsal dinner in Detroit. As guests gathered beneath the tent, laughter carried through the warm evening air while candlelight flickered across beautifully set tables. It was the perfect introduction to the weekend—relaxed, welcoming, and full of anticipation for what was still to come.

One of my favorite things about multi-day celebrations is learning who my couple’s closest people are before the wedding day itself. I begin recognizing the people who have shaped the couple’s story, making the emotions of the wedding day feel even more meaningful.

A Quiet Morning Before a Detroit Wedding at The War Memorial

Wedding mornings always have their own rhythm, and Jordan’s was beautifully calm while filled with excitement as she wrote her vows to Maxxum. She chose a gown that perfectly reflected her style—clean, sophisticated, and effortlessly elegant. And the fit only accentuated her supermodel figure. The simplicity of the dress allowed her to shine, especially the timeless square neckline that suited her perfectly.

Meanwhile, Maxx and his groomsmen looked incredibly sharp in classic black tuxedos with bow ties, complementing the old-money Detroit aesthetic that carried throughout the day. Black floor-length bridesmaid dresses paired beautifully with the neutral floral palette of soft peach and beige, creating an understated elegance that never competed with the historic surroundings.

A Detroit Wedding at the War Memorial with Old Money Elegance

The War Memorial offers so many beautiful corners for portraits, but it was impossible to ignore the charm of the estate paired with a vintage automobile. Those portraits immediately transported us to another era. Between the architecture, the waterfront breeze, and the polished details, every frame felt cinematic without ever feeling staged.

As a Detroit wedding photographer, I’m always looking for inspiration from the energy of the city to find little moments of movement, connection and emotion: the quiet smiles exchanged between portraits, or the laughter that happens in between posing. Jordan and Maxx made that effortless. But to be honest, these two were so model-esque that their portrait time was straight editorial. And also, Jordan’s chic head scarf and oversized sunglasses for a little “Jackie O” moment just sent me! These two just ooze elegance, I had to capitalize on it.

A Detroit Wedding Ceremony Beside the Water

There couldn’t have been a more fitting backdrop than the lawn overlooking Lake St. Clair. Guests arrived dressed to the nines in their black tie attire. Ladies in stunning gowns with sparkles, ruffles and immaculate taste with complimenting suits and bowties for the gentlemen.

One of the most meaningful parts of the ceremony was knowing it was led by Maxx’s brother, making every word feel deeply personal. Standing beside him as best man was another brother, adding even more significance to an already emotional ceremony. Family was woven into every part of the day, and you could feel how much those relationships meant to both of them.

As Jordan made her way down the aisle, the gentle breeze coming off the lake added just enough movement to remind everyone they were celebrating somewhere truly special.

Black Tie Cocktail Hour with a View

Following the ceremony, guests wandered the terraces overlooking the water while enjoying cocktails and conversation. The relaxed pace gave everyone time to soak in the views before the evening shifted indoors.

One of the reasons I love photographing a War Memorial wedding is how naturally the venue transitions throughout the day. Every space feels connected, allowing guests to experience the property while never losing the intimate feeling of the celebration.

An Evening Filled with Celebration

As the reception began, the historic ballroom took on an entirely different personality. Soft lighting reflected across elegant tables while music filled the room and guests celebrated well into the evening.

It was a reception filled with joyful embraces, packed dance floors, and the kind of laughter that reminds you weddings aren’t simply beautiful because of the décor—they’re beautiful because of the people gathered together.

Jordan and Maxx created a celebration that honored tradition while still feeling entirely their own, blending timeless style with heartfelt moments from beginning to end.
