Where do I start with this session?? How about the beginning of my trip to Indy! I actually met up with an Insta-friend (and fellow ‘Courtney‘) before this session! She’s a fellow KJ photographer and now one of my second shooters! We also planned on her showing me some of her secret spots at Eagle Creek before I met Torie and Brad!
Well, at about 7:00, Courtney and I headed to Eagle Creek Park to meet for the engagement session and what-do-ya-know.. the park closes at 7:30 😐 UGH! Thankfully, Torie and Brad actually arrived early for their session and Courtney said “no big deal, I’ll just show you to the places and be your ‘Michael’! (a reference to our favorite educator, Katelyn James’, husband who carries around the bags during sessions haha!)
So for the first time ever, I had an engagement session assistant and it was such a coincidence because I had JUST hired Courtney as my second shooter for Torie and Brad’s Wedding!! So now they know exactly who to expect on their wedding day! Talk about upping the client experience!
So, as we all walked together to the secret spot, we thought “They can’t lock us in here, right?” Surely we would be fine if we stayed out past 7:30. So we used up as much time as we could and shot for about 45 minutes before we headed back to the cars for my couple to change into the second outfit. And at about 8:15…. of course, the park ranger rolls in.
Crap.
Yes. He kicked us out. But we definitely weren’t the only ones left in the park past curfew so we all packed up and headed back allllllll the way through the park to the OTHER entrance to leave (cause he closed the gate behind us) and drove allllllll the way back to where we were, to the outside of the entrance and walked back in. (it’s allowed, don’t worry)
Poor Torie, she said “I just wanted one wedding thing to go normal” and I said “Girl, you are going to get your engagement photos! Just as you should! On my watch, you will get the wedding experience you deserve!”
So, as the sun set behind the trees at the park entrance, I got the most amazing glowy sunset portraits EVER! And Ruby, their chocolate lab, had THE MOST FUN jumping and playing through the tall grasses while we shot!
I gotta say, Ruby holds the title for best RC Pup! She barely needed her leash and listened so well! She stuck around with us the whole time! I just loved her and I hope to see her again at Torie and Brad’s Barn at Kennedy Farm wedding in August! I can’t wait to shoot at this gorgeous venue!
Torie, Brad, thank you so much for the most lovely evening out at Eagle Creek Park! You two are the sweetest and I can’t wait to see you guys again at the wedding day! I hope you enjoy the images from our lovely evening at Eagle Creek!
