Educating your clients not only empowers your couples and enhances your client experience but it also HELPS YOU in the long run.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, PEOPLE! I can’t tell you how many times my clients have thanked me over and over because of how helpful all the information I had given to them has been! It not only makes you look like a superstar but it HELPS YOU in the long run because your clients aren’t making things harder on you. Let me explain:

WHY? Deliver a Better Client Experience

You look like a superstar because you have single-handedly helped them relax and reduce their anxiety and nerves about the session or wedding day. If you’re a photographer, I would say the majority of your clients are far from comfortable in front of the camera. Unless they are repeat customers of yours, they are most likely unsure of what to expect during their session.

WHY? Receive Less Emails with Questions

Education is how I get my wedding clients to choose great locations for getting ready photos and have a timeline that has enough wiggle room for portraits and collect all their bridal details before I arrive on the wedding day. I can’t begin to tell you the huge sigh of relief I feel when I show up and I can tell my bride has read her bridal guide and did her homework to prepare for a photography-friendly wedding day!!

Here are three ways to start implementing this important step in your Client Experience now:

1. Welcome Guide

Whether you’re a wedding or portrait photographer, a beautiful way to educate your clients from the get-go is to send a welcome guide. Whether it’s printed and mailed or sent digitally — just getting the information to them as soon as they book helps them feel empowered. Personally, I think a physical guide is the better option. I believe there is a better chance of it being read when it’s printed. Plus, if you mail a printed copy you can send a little gift! And your clients instantly think “Wow, what a fun surprise! Worth every penny.” (Psst… When you offer a better Client Experience you can raise your prices but that’s a topic for another day)

2. Frequent Communication

Frequent communication has such a positive impact on your Client Experience. Whether it’s a family session or a wedding client, I can tell you that they will not understand or catch everything the first time you tell them. If something is truly, truly important for them to know, you must tell them more than once!

3. Educational Blog Posts

Educational blog posts are a wonderful tool for getting information to my clients! I like to dig deep into a topic so if they are interested in learning more they have access to it! A webpage that they can bookmark or save to their Pinterest to reference back to whenever they need it. Plus it’s great for SEO!

Wondering what on Earth you can write about to educate your clients? Maybe these will get the wheels turning:

  • Props to Bring to Your Engagement Session
  • Your Favorite Shops For Engagement Session Outfits
  • How to Craft the Perfect Wedding Day Timeline

Just think of any tips and tricks you’ve learned from being a wedding photographer or the things you tell your clients over and over and over again… write about it!
