“Waiting until you edit the entire wedding gallery to blog your favorites is like writing the whole essay when the professor just wants a synopsis.”
Sharing a sneak peek or ten pics on an IG post is all you’re doing to show off that wedding? NO WAY, JOSÉ — We can (and must) do better than that! If you’re already blogging your weddings, cool beans! But is it your first priority after a wedding day? Because it should be!
No time to read now? Pin for later!
The marketing power of sharing a blog post full of the best photos shortly after the wedding day is beyond measurable for your business! I see some photographers who wait until the end of their busy season or just “whenever they have time” to finally blog a wedding. And there are the photographers who NEVER blog. Waiting until you edit the whole wedding to blog your favorites is like writing the whole essay when the professor just wants a synopsis.
A few reasons why blogging is crucial to your post-wedding workflow:
TELL THE WHOLE STORY
We want to see more! Your blog gives your potential clients a taste of what a full gallery could include without actually showing a full gallery. Unlike the carousel post, your blog post can feature enough photos to tell the story of the entire day (and truly show off your talent)! The blog post showcases the standard photos as well as the in-between moments you capture and this way your audience can see what you’re capable of, trust that you can get the job done before they ever inquire.
READY FOR SOCIAL
Fully editing the best photos of the day and having them readily available allows you to have a selection of images on hand to grab when you need to share something on social! Just take the time NOW to sort through your absolute favorites instead of going through folders upon folders in your hard drive to find something to post to social. Handpick your favorites and keep them in a separate folder when you want to share on social media or add something to your website!
WOW YOUR CLIENTS AND VENDORS
A client sharing the photos six weeks after the wedding just doesn’t have as much impact. Once you have the fully edited blog images that are the best of the best and tell the story of the day, SEND THEM TO YOUR CLIENT and even the VENDORS. There is a PEAK window of time right after an event that has the most marketing potential.
Think about it… friends and family may have had another wedding the following Saturday… nobody is as excited as they are in that 7-day window!
Imagine this… you have delivered 50-75 photos within days after the wedding, a bride is already sharing them on her Instagram… Facebook… to her friends, family. People who know, like and trust her are seeing YOUR work and YOUR name. She’s going on and on about how amazing her day was and how in love she is with her photos! Then her friends and family members start following you to see more and become future clients. It comes around full circle.
TRAIN YOUR CLIENTS
Train your clients to LOVE the very best images, the ones YOU are proud of. The photos with great lighting, great composition, the colors are perfect, ya know, the portfolio-worthy images! When your clients get these images before their full gallery is complete, this trains them to love these images the most. These will be the ones they share, the ones they put in their album, the photos they print and frame to hang on their walls. This is a huge marketing tactic that enhances how your brand is perceived by anyone who sees the images! You can rest assured that they’re sharing the best of the best and not the other bride and groom photos that are maybe just “okay” but made it into the gallery anyway!
GREAT FOR SEO (SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION)
Ohhhh the dreaded S.E.O. As a Digital Marketer, myself, I do understand SEO but I know how daunting it can be to comprehend as a creative! But basically, Google loooves new website content so publishing a new page each time you blog helps you rank higher. It also loves It’s also a great spot to add searchable keywords so clients can find you on Google!
